A Day in the Life of… A Facilities Manager and Museum Technician

Posted on

What’s the first thing you did when you arrived this morning?

Started re-installing the environmental sensors in the museum cases.

Give me a brief description of what you did today.

Had a meeting with council with regards to survey valuation of the new gardeners bothy. General in house repairs. Contract renewals. Facilities meeting.

How would you describe a normal day in the life of a Facilities Manager and Museum Technician?

To manage the facilities at the Museum; to oversee the management of tenanted properties in the Burns Group; to install and maintain museum displays, monitor health and safety and security; manage the work of external suppliers and contractors.

What’s your favourite thing about the job?

The diversity of my work.

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you working at RBMM so far?

I got stuck on the roof once as the door shut behind me and I didn’t have keys. I had to phone for help.
